    Default Black Heron

Technically an Egret, but for some reason it is referred to as a Black Heron. Relatively common in the Okavango Delta where it breeds during the wet season. It is actually sort of slate-gray, but not as light as the Slaty Egret, another Botswana specialty.

    D500, Sigma 250-600C @ 550mm; ISO 640, 1/2500s @ f/7.1 manual. HH from vehicle; cropped from horizontal.

I just love how each foot has a little perch. Great BG.
Good comp and you have shown the slight variation in color very well.
There is a little clone mark in the RLC above the branch.
    Nicely done,
    Gail

Great look at this guy, and particularly his stunning yellow feet. BG perfect as well. Very good result for the bright light.

Such a neat looking bird. Those yellow feet really stand out. Nice pose and background. Interesting perch as well.

A good pose and background Bill.
Exposure looks good but I think you can get more colour separation in the plumage with a minor colour balance adjustment.

What a cool heron! I love the "Snowy Egret" golden slippers, and like Gail mentions, with each their own little perch. Good BG too.

Thank you all. Yes, Gail, it looks like a cloning artifact; only your eagle-eye would see it. Easily fixed.
