    Default Dunlin running by

This Dunlin was photographed on the East Pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge last October. Birds stayed out in the slightly deeper water so I kept my shutter speed high so I could capture the full foot out of the water while they ran around feeding. Late evening light.

I wouldn't change a thing. That raised foot looks real cool. You can 'feel' the movement of the bird. Lovely detail, POV and BG colours. Because the bird is striding forward, the looking straight ahead HA, works perfectly here. If the bird was looking slightly towards us, as per the usual nice HA, it would look out of place, because of the obvious motion coming from the bird..

    Nice one

Lovely shot, Isaac. Great dynamic, off-balance pose, and beautiful water. Wish I had gotten to the East Pond last season.

This is excellent. I love the forward sense of movement created by the neck that is slightly thrust forward, and the raised foot.
It is hard to get this pose and be tack sharp!
Love the bit of rusty color on the shoulder.
    Really nice Isaac!

Perfect running pose, and great parallel running position. Ultra sharp and a great POV, excellent work all round

Very nice work on this guy Isaac. Action is great and it doesn't get any sharper.

Great looking pose with the raised foot and the details don't get much better than this.
Exposure and colors look great too. The only improvement would be to get rid of the tiny 2nd catch light.
    Well done

A fine shot Isaac but I think the darkest areas are a little choked, I have lifted them just a little, I think there is a subtle difference WDYT?

Hi Jonathan. I think both versions look good. It was a beautiful cloudless sky with super warm and saturated late evening light. In those situations I tend to lean towards leaving things as bit more as I saw them, meaning more contrasty. I don't ever really feel like shadows always have to be artificially lifted or things like that. Sometimes it is good to have a nice black black or white white. But certainly there is no harm is in doing a minor curve adjustment or lowering contrast which makes the shot a little less contrasty. I agree the change is subtle and that the darks are a little less choked now than the original. I appreciate the time you took and the varying perspective. Thanks as always for your input. I really feel like that is such a great thing about this site and the people on it.

Hi Isaac, another low angled capture, and this perspective works so well. Love the foot out the water, good feather detail, and overall nice and sharp. Great smooth upper BG too.
