    Default Snowy Owl in flight

This is one of my favorite in flight Snowy Owl images from winter 2018. Even when you set up everything perfectly with the wind and sun directions and you get lucky with for whatever reason the owl deciding to fly, they have a way of always flying at least a few degrees away from the camera sensor. This is one where the owl had more important business than flying a few degrees away from me and had to chase another owl out of the area. In fact I have watched the owls watching / interacting with many animals from seagulls and eagles to horses and by far they get the most excited when they see another owl, especially another Snowy Owl. Taken about a 1/2 hour before sunset. 1/4000, f6.3, auto ISO 500, D850, 500 f4 E + 1.4III.

Beautiful image quality here John. I love the wing position. Details are so nice. Head angle does not bother me at all here. I feel like I have missed opportunities this year as so many snowies have been around but most of the time I spent was looking for them and not photographing them. I would love a shot like this one.

Another great snowy frame. Love the two toned background. Nice flight pose on the bird. Sweet light as well.

Looks like you've had a great season with these birds. I love the BG and the light is to day for. Love the pose and the visible feet. Nice details throughout. I wish it was mine. No nits from me. TFS

Nice light on this individual, and the texture on the wing is pretty cool. I do feel the blue band is a touch dark. Lots of snowies up here too this year, but no time to properly concentrate on a good session with them, hopefully next year!

    This is excellent John.
Great light and IQ and I love the dangly feet! Love the fanned tail that is dipping our way.
No wonder its one of your favorites.
    Congrats!

Great capture and lovely IQ, John. The wings, head, feet, and tail positions are excellent. Love the tip of the beak protruding. Like the rich sand, sea, and shade of blue sky.

Well, the bird and IQ are really wonderful John but I love that horizon too. Beautifully handled white plumage showing wonderful detail and great wing and leg position. No faults from me here.

Hi Jon, brilliant IQ, and I really like the light in this. Great flight pose with the raised wings, and I do like those fluffy feet. I feel the lower bands break the sky BG, and works for me. Well captured.
