I captured this Merlin early and given the extra feathers probably just after breakfast. I know the horizontal perch is not ideal in a portrait crop but with nothing but blue sky the landscape looked too empty to me. 1/4000, f6.3, auto ISO 560, 500 f4 E + 1.4III, D500.

Hi John, lovely HA, and I like the intense stare as if fixated on another meal below.

We have a great view of his talons, and if this were mine, I would come in a bit from the LHS. Just a personal thing with vertical comps.

Looks good as a vertical. Nice composition and detail. I don't mind the perch.

Nothing I'd change here, John. Perch is fine by me also. Really nice shot and wish it was mine.

Excellent pose and details, I might de-satuare the blues a bit to focus more on the bird

A fine shot, for me the blacks are a little heavy and the blue as mentioned is a little saturated.

This is great. Another one from the car? Beautiful pose and soft feather details. I agree about taking a litttle blue out of the sky.

Thank you for the feedback. It was one of those cold clear east coast mornings so the blue recorded was probably not far off but I reduced it here and hopefully improved
