    I photographed short eared owls in BC 2 years ago and still have many files form the trip. This owl was actually making really loud calls to warn others not enter its territory but in the photo it appeared as if he is "smiling

    shot with the 1DX II and 400DO II + 1.4X III. ISO 3200 f/5.6 at 1/1600 sec hand held. processed with DPP4.7

    I had to look twice because of the fine feathers covering his mouth area, but indeed, it does look like a smile.

    Great color harmony, and despite the soft light the owl pops from the page. Well composed, good wing position.

    Great eye.

    As with Randy I had to do a double take to see the smile, but once I saw it then I smiled too. Super sharp on the eye!

    Well done, made me smile as well! The eye has it and I like his position against the horizon, nice colors throughout and sharpness...
