    Default Woodland Kingfisher displaying

This KF is a beautifully vivid blue color when seen from the back with wings folded, as he was when I first spotted him. When a female approached he turned around and went into display mode, and she promptly took off. I don't know if it was a failed courtship attempt, or if he was just claiming the rights to the perch.

Lovely bird Bill, and very nice pp here... I like the pose, the perch , the BG and the tiny feet. Sure we would all wish for the tail to show and the beak not to intersect w the wing, but thats not what was captured. This is a very fine image, love the light blue on the cheek side and head. I'd suggest cloning that whitewash out of the wing tip. How many different KF's did you encounter? TFS

Thanks Ann. Altogether we saw 6 KF species, but the Giant didn’t give us a great look.

Love the pose on the bird. Good detail as well. Nice background and nice perch.

    Beautiful pose and behavior shown.
I like this a lot but I know how beautiful they are from the back, so I find myself wishing to see the blue!
The IQ and sharpness are superb.
I agree with Ann re:cloning out the whitewash on the primary.
Amazingly clean BG for the area you were in. usually, lots of tangled bush.

Very nice, I love those bold wings!! The only thing I would have preferred is having your lens pointed higher a bit more, but the opportunity can be fast and furious to take your time to compose in the heat of the action. Six species of KF? Great trip!

What a beauty, as well as your capture, Bill. Some loud vocal greeting they produce. I read that they do this wing display as part of their greeting. Love the calling/greeting pose.

Thanks everyone. Yes, a bit more room at the top might help.
