    Default Low Cloud

This bearscape was taken the one day there was a bit of heavier cloud cover while I was at Silver Salmon Creek. I liked the way the cloud blanketed the top of the nearby mountain and the layers of the habitat. This is taken facing inland, away from Cook Inlet.

Beautiful bearscape, Rachel. Nice techs, subject well placed within the frame and I like the walking pose.

A very neat image well processed, great detail on the subject itself. This would make a perfect postcard Wonderful 3D feel here. As well as colours.

If you wish you could try a more contrasty version but I guess your intention was to reproduce what you saw... Love that blanket of cloud BTW

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Hi Rachel

A nice strong image of a bear in habitat. I like the pose of the bear and the composition. I know you wildlife guys look at the wildlife, but the landscape photog in me is looking and wondering what is going on along the ridge line?? Is it a masking line that's not feathered?? I agree with Gabriela that the upper half of the image could do with a little more contrast... but I respect its your image & your vision..

Hi Rachel -- This is a fantastic bearscape ! I loved the feel to it because of the clouds and beautifully lined up trees. The subject is nicely placed in the frame as well. Outline of the mountain appears a bit odd to me .

    A very fine capture nonetheless.

    TFS !

Thanks Gabriela, Sanjeev, Don and Haseeb. Don and Haseeb - no masking in the area you pointed out. Looking at other images facing that way, the lower edge of the cloud is not at the top of the mountain but rather significantly below the top. The mountain had some areas that still had snow or are glaciers there permanently. I think the lower edge of the cloud is at the low edge of some of the glaciers and that's the white edge you see.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Rachel I do like this type of image that gives the viewer a hint of the conditions and this one works very well, coming down from what looks like fairly hostile to a nice pleasant almost meadow like conditions.Bear looks small in comparison but all works very well for me.

I like the image and composition. Given the low cloud it makes me think the grass is a little vibrant and the dry stems just a little bright. I would try lowering the brightness of the grassy meadow a little, just to see the effect WDYT?

What a great scene you've captured Rachel. This one has a lot going for it but for me I feel is a little flat and thin at the moment. Everyone will have a different interpretation but I would have made this a moodier shot by darkening the whole image and adding a bit of intensity to the deeper tones. Just my take though and happy to respect your choice here.
