    Default Cook Inlet Bearscape

I'll start us off for the March Theme of Animalscapes with this image of the mom and 2 of her 3 cubs in the tidal flats of Cook Inlet at low tide. I believe the mountains are some of the Kenai Mountains and are more than 50 miles away. This was taken midday with no clouds so the light was a bit harsh. The cubs had been running toward the water just before so that's the reason for the settings.

Nice composition for me Rachel - good to see them in their environment. As you say light is harsh which doesn't show up the mountains to their best I feel but still works as an image. What is going on in the midground on the left of the frame where the water meets the dark brown bank (a little above the branch in the water)? Looks a bit odd.

Rachel looks like a wild bleak place to make a living,I do like the vastness of it all and the Bears trying to find meager pickings,Don't think I would have noticed what Simon referred to until it was pointed out but now I'm interested,Do like this.

Lovely animalscape dear Rachel, wonderful colours and well composed too. Love the vastness and tranquility portrayed here. Well exposed despite the harsh light. Techs look good to me. I would love to participate in this month's theme but don't think I have animalscapes... Nevertheless I am going to look through my folders to see if I can find something, but I doubt it will be as pretty as this

Thank you so much for sharing, appreciate it. Enjoyed this, very much.

    Warmest regards,

Thanks Simon, Keith and Gabriela. Simon and Keith - I looked at the full-size tiff and that's a splash in the water. I'm not sure what caused it.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, a fine bear-scape with good DOF and placement of the animals in the frame. Nicely seen and executed despite the strong lighting conditions.

Excellent bearscape here Rachel, with mum and her cubs foraging behaviour well depicted, the midday light is what it is, but dealt with fairly well.

The one issue for me is the cyan hue through the image, particularly in the sky & BG, I'd slide the hues away from the green to blue, and it looks more natural for mine.

HI Rachel -- A lovely scape indeed ! loved the placement of the subject in the frame and those distant mountains add to the scene. Colours has a cyan feel to it as mentioned above by Marc , but it is subjective and you were there. Light nicely handled. All in all a fine image .

    TFS !

I like this one Rachel. It has a sense of place & shows the environment that these behemoths inhabit. I don't see a cyan cast. I like the composition.

It's a colour hue Andrew, not colour cast, that's something different. A cast is generally seen in particular areas and tones, whereas a hue is (generally) throughout the entire image.

Thanks everyone. Here it is with the hue adjusted more to blue and away from green and cyan. I then had to reduce the magentas and reds because it looked a little more purple in areas. I think it's more pleasing but the OP is probably more true to the actual colors.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel
