    Sometimes the California pelicans strike some really interesting poses while preening themselves on the cliffs. While this isn't quite the head-under-the-wing yoga stretch I saw them doing a few years ago, you can still see how flexible those long necks are. Not the classic head-and-shoulders pelican shot, so do let me know if you think it works!

    7D mkII, 100-400 IS II zoom, hand held at about 270mm

    It's pretty cool how flexible birds are! The heron family is the same. I love the water texture in the BG. Just enough perch showing. As posted the details seem a little oversharpened and "crunchy" in spots, but we can tell this is a perfectly focused image. Are you able to bring back a bit more out of the black neck?

    Hi Jake, I agree with Daniel, a little too sharpened and i'd try increasing exposure... nice job isolating him!

    Bird looks fine on my screen. Nice pose and love that bright water. I like your choice of crop. I agree re bringing up the neck. Bird seems a little too blue.
