    Yes, it's another Heerman's gull! I took the photo despite a bunch of crud and rocks blocking the lower half of the bird, thinking that there might be some potential if I cropped the undesirables out. They're probably nothing more than parking lot birds for people who live in San Diego, but for me the subtle grays and scarlet bills are a nice change from the typical Ring-bills out east.

    The only disadvantage to square cropping a 7D mkII image is the final size; it measures about 10 inches across, leaving you with a more limited upper range for printing big.

    Im so glad this is another" Heerman's, because this is perfecto! what a lovely gull with tack sharp details and yes that scarlet eye ring and bill is the cherry on top!

    Realy nice Jake. Details are spot on and you have a perfect complementary background. I love that we can see through the nostril.

    Lovely looking image Jake. I really like the colours especially the whites blending into the greys. The red bill and eye gives the image a nice colour boost. Lovely detail and POV. The BG shows the bird well.
