Various soft corals, clams, anemones and many other small creatures colonize the legs of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. This is around the 80' level where the bottom is 300' down. Flash gives a bit of color to the nearest support and the receding columns show what it looks like with only ambient light.

Very cool David !!! I like the foreground elements and fare away but not the one column to the right If you wanted to include then moving to have some even blue would have been great !!!

Not sure how far you were but seems petty far like four feet? Maybe four and a half? Light starts falling off for strong colors.... it has to reach the subject and bounce back to the camera. Just like shooting at eight to ten feet with no strobe ...

btw for this area I love doing available light wide angle images. If you have a clear day with strong sun its easy making the sunburst effect by going to f 22... lots of possibilities here !!!

David, I agree with Alfred about the right side column. Removing it an showing just the pillars at the back can give a feel of beautiful nature vs man's monstrous interventions...Good work. Keep on sharing.

    Hi David,
Wouldn't want to see the whole post gone on the right.........but maybe 1/2 of it as I like the way they recede into the BG. Nicely done!
