Default I thought this was a Tri Colored Heron

    but I got my doubts

This is not my original crop. As you can guess by now my 1st crop was much tighter, especially on the left. So I'm trying more room based on C&C here. I don't like the bird in the middle but I wanted the water on the left. Anyway, thoughts on the left (no politics please), bird in the middle ? Thanks as always.

It is indeed a tricolor heron in a classic pose! The smooth water and reflection are really nice. In a perfect world, the head angle would be just a degree or two toward the camera, but you have both the head and the body nicely square.

As for which crop I prefer, I would definitely go with the second version, with the bird more to the left. It gives him some space to look and walk into.

Gorgeous light, and a nice pose. For me it has to be the version with extra negative space in front of the bird. I like the water trail as well, so a pano crop suits the shot nicely.

    Hi Randy,
Classic hunting pose and a terrific wader that will give you lots of action without warning! Be prepared for two things: always leave yourself enough room for the wings fully extended and take into consideration the whiter feathers under the wing if the tri makes his/her moves... I like the 2nd crop and would suggest another round of sharpening for the head. Lovely freeze and what gorgeous flat water! TFS

I like this. Yellow to the left, yellow to the right (legs and bill). Think I would like the first crop with a touch more space top and bottom. Thanks.

Great pose and love the water. It is smooth as! I wish for more room below.
I am guessing this is a fair crop since you have made the image into a pano?
You should post at maximum size really, it is harder to appreciate the images so small now. :)
