    Default Bear Family

    Attached Images Attached Images

Starting off February's Theme with an image of Aggro and her 3 one year old cubs. This was one of the few times that they cooperated by mostly looking in the same direction. We weren't the reason they looked up. An arriving plane caused them to do so. Btw there's a fifth brown bear in the image.

HH, cropped to 16x9 (no more room horizontally), TK lumo masks, levels, curves, reduced yellows, sharpened in PSCC.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

This looks good Rachel - like the grass in the Mother bear's mouth.

Being critical I think I'd like to see the bears positioned lower in the frame with less foreground and more of the forest behind them. Still a nice looking image though :)

Out of interest what's a TK lumo mask?

Thanks Simon. I agree with you about the comp but don't have any more above. TK lumo masks are Tony Kuyper luminosity masks. He sells a package of actions for applying luminosity masks and also has tutorials.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel -- Lovely scene and nice tones as well . I agree with the crop suggestion , would have look much more beautiful with the inclusion of the trees in the backdrop. But a lovely scene nonetheless . TFS !

Another super shot Rachel, they are all pretty intent upon watching someone - whom I guess is you! My only reservation is the bears being a little high in the frame, I like the colours. I think if you brushed over the base with a soft light layer and the brush on black it would reduce the impact of the large foreground.

Another wonderful family moment Rachel, I like the plane story, good rouse to get their attention

Rachel i've spotted your 5th bear and with it something I'm guessing I'd crop. I'd presume that blue splodge to the right of 5th bear is a group of photographers, maybe not maybe something else???? For me what ever it is it has to go it really jars with the "wildness" of your stunning envioronment.

It is insignificant in the overal image but once my eye grabbed providing your ethics allow, I'd remove.

I wonder if this might work as a plano Rachel, given the reservations about framing and foreground??

He he I've loved all these bear images TFS

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. Stu - that blue "splodge" is one of the ATV and trailer used to transport people. It's so small at this size that it doesn't bother me but if I were to print this image I probably would clone it out since it is man-made.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Very nice. The little bears are too cute. Like all the grasses. This is my favorite bear and cubs frame i have seen of yours.

Lucky you, Rachel to capture such a nice moment. Great to have all the bears in focus too (except for the one in the background, of course). The soft light is great and colours look natural to my eye. I see the point about too much foreground but another option is to take a sliver more off and turn it into a more extreme panorama. Also agree that the oof vehicle could go. But these are all fairly minor points on what is a very nice image.

Very nice family, Rachel. My thought was to put the bears lower in the frame as well, but understand you don't have any more room on top. Loi

Really cool -- I love the soft light and all of them looking up. The cubs are so cute and the mom looks really impressive as well. Would not wanna mess with her! I like the grasses and don't mind the foreground amount. TFS

A lovely image Rachel. I like that all 4 bears are looking in your direction. I also like the fur detail.

Hi Rachel, like the Pano, but also like the idea of going lower too in the shooting. For me there is a bit too much FG and reducing this may perhaps be another alternative. What TK applications did you apply, as I think/feel you have some highlights that could be lowered and the shades on Mum opened.

Having folk in the BKG near the tree line photographing another Bear is a bit of an issue, but I know you will leave it in.
