So happy to see a few Mergansers spending some time around a nearby lake. Finally got one to take leave in descent light. Thanks for looking.

    Details: Nikon D850 + Sigma 500/4 + 1.4 TC, 1/3200, 6.3, HH, C1P (raw), PS CCC 2018 for adjustments, SS on output.

I love the bird and the trailing splashes, Sharp, good colours. Bummer the background was not farther away. I see potential evidence that you may have extended the canvas in front of the merganser?

No potential... it was extended. ;) Going for the water trail cut me short on the "front side". I cleaned up some of that after my post, but when I've tried to repost/exchange shots I seem to only end up with two copies posted. If you can tell me (PM) how to remove one and replace - I have a copy when the extension is handled a little better. Still learning PS by a long shot.

Agree about BG. You could, however, selectively process the BG to lessen its impact. Admittedly, it would not give as good a result as having it much further back, but it would lessen the effect of it.
Love the water splashes. You nailed those and the bird
    Congrats! :)
