Today was the first day with my new 300mm 2.8 afs. Really enjoying the lens. The auto focus is much much better then my 300 f4 with screw drive af. Anyway I love these little birds they are getting really close to me I got a lot of shots I'm happy with today.

On a side note I've never shot birds with a polarizing filter. Other then the extreme reduced light gathering they results look way more vibrant. On the down side I'm kindof stuck with the polarizing filter because (to my surprise) the lens didn't come with the regular plain glass filter holder.

Like the composition here and all those specular highlights. Is this a big crop? The bird looks quite soft.

Thanks John. It's cropped a bit nothing too major. I think softness is coming from bad downsizing. Or maybe I should have brought down the highlights on the bird.

I like the intimate look at this little shorebird. I also like the bit of vegetation in the water. Yes to toning down the highlights (and fully eliminating many of the sparkles). Did you sharpen the image after resizing? It looks properly focused, but seemingly only needs a small dose of sharpening for posting online.

Brought down the highlights and added some sharpening.
