I made this portrait at Doñana National Park about a couple of months ago. The Squacco herons were really cooperative and allowed a lot of aproximation. This one is a crop from a full frame image. An adult bird in full breeding stage with the beautifull green and blue colours of the bare parts.

Beautiful bird, great details and colors. I only wish for a bit more head turn toward you.

Breeding plumage so amazing I have never seen anything like it on this species. Ditto Axel's head turn comment. All in all, quite lovely.
