    Default Gadwall Hen, backlit

Not being familiar with the layout at Estero Llano Grande, we arrived to find a nice group of ducks backlit by a hazy bright sky. Not optimum conditions, but it did offer some interesting shots. This Gadwall hen was coming in to join the others. Cropped from horizontal. I probably would have used some fill flash, but the day before I had dropped the Fresnel lens of my BB in a parking lot, and it blew into a mesquite thicket where I couldn't retrieve it. I did like the translucency of the primaries and fanned tail.

    Bill:

Nice high key/backlit image, which works well.

    Nicely exposed, good ventral view.

    Worked well without the flash.

I like the High Key Look.

Beautiful Image. Like what way you cropped the image. I wish the eye is more visible.

    Thanks for sharing.

This looks exceedingly good Bill for a backlit situation. I'm impressed by how well you have dealt with this. The tones underneath are great and I also like the light coming through the primaries, but even more the strange strobed look of the tail which I now is normal but looks really interesting.

Good one, Bill. Very nice banking capture under the conditions we had to work with, detail fine detail. Wonderfull translucence in wings and tail feathers.
