While relatively common, these are a little shy. The bird in this case was no doubt aware I was there and a little concerned as reflected in the pose. But I remained relatively motionless and it continued about its business feeding on grass seeds as is typical for this species.

Thank you for looking and for any comments you are kind enough to share.

Technical: Canon 80D with EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM at 400mm handheld. Manual exposure 1/200 sec, f6.3, ISO 1600. Processed in Canon DPP 4 (digital lens optimiser @ 50, sharpness = 3, crop, lighting adjustments, NR) then exported 16 bit TIFF to Photoshop Elements with Neat Image NR plugin. Modest NR applied to bird and stronger to background. Bird only sharpened in PSE (Sharpness tool, remove Gaussian Blur: 0.4 pixels at 50%) after final size reduction.

Very nice low angle shot. Really like the Parrot look here through the grass. I feel the image needs a little more room on the bottom and sides. I can still see the tail through the grass and it is pretty much to the border of the image. The sharpness around the head it's spot on!

Really nice capture of the rosella, Glenn. Background is great, and I like the out of focus grass, really putting it in its feeding environment.
Agree with Raybel on the crop if you have any more on the left and bottom.

Thank Raybel and Greg... forgot to mention the crop. This is almost full frame with just a bit off the top and a little off the bottom. So I could bring in a bit more below but nothing more on the left side. These birds have fairly long tails and if I'd framed this with more tail (or virtual tail as it was mostly hidden anyway), I feel the bird would have become smaller in the frame than I'd have liked and the shot lost impact as a result. I do have another frame that has more on the left but still probably not the whole virtual tail.

Very attractive bird and the FG grass makes the image.
The comp is fine, tough subjects to pose with that tail....
I would get rid of the dark blobs on the right side of the FG.

My first thought with this image is that I love the color palette. Great low POV. You should enter it in the theme for the month.
Agree that you need a bit more room on the left and bottom.
    Good IQ and details.
I do wish there FG grasses were a bit less prominent but not a deal breaker,

Lovely image, Glenn. Nice detail on the bird, such a colorful bird. I am not familiar with the bird but to me the reds look right. Nice background and blurred foreground. Thank you for sharing.

I'm happy with the image as it is, having all the tail in the frame and more at the bottom would have strengthened the composition for sure.
The colours of the bird are stunning and nice to see in grassy habitat.

Great colors and setting. Amazing how many colors this bird manages to have. I love these low profile shots. I do wish for a bit more room on the left. Nice techs to get the capture. I also think cloning out the darker blobs could help. TFS

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. Here is the other frame I mentioned with more on the left. I have cropped less from the bottom of this one and dealt with the dark blobs using lighting adjustments. I actually adjusted exposure between this frame and the original post so this frame was underexposed about one stop. It hasn't suffered too badly in my efforts to recover it but you may notice a little degradation here and there. I'm not sure I like it as much as the bird has less impact in this frame.

Hi Glenn, excellent image for this month's theme, and well done on getting down and dirty to achieve it. The colours really pop against the lighter coloured BG, and you have brought out the detail on the bird very well. Your repost has addressed the space leftand bottom.

Terrific colours! Long-tailed birds can sometimes be a pain to compose eh! I think you did well as the low angle works well with a nicely separated background. I prefer the left and bottom of the repost, but I see the predicament this brings in to balance the comp.

I love these birds! They are so vibrant and colorful. I hand raised one for my kids years ago and they named him "Skittles" for the colorful candy he resembled. Nice colors and details and I too prefer the RP. Well done

A beautiful bird you captured here Glenn! I like the low angle, details, exposure and composition in the repost.
