Hi John,
The woodpecker looks great. I wish the woodpecker had been closer to the front of the tree so that the tree was more in focus ( like your image below of the sapsucker).
If this was my set-up I would place the "tree" so that you had a better BG behind the woodpecker.Perhaps some green trees or bushes.

I like this one John,
Classic side on Woodie pose, nice head separation from the trunk, and whilst the BG is a bit stark, for me it works and keeps the shot nice and simple

Lovely details on the pecker. I personally don't mind the trunk been OOF. I do wish the BG had a bit more of a color like Gail suggested. But nonetheless this is a nice image.
John, the bird looks fabulous with great detail and tonal range. I don't know the colour on these so will leave that to others but looks fine to me in ignorance. I'm also no fan of the washed out background but maybe you had no other opportunities to change position or find a better background.
I agree that the details look nice and I am fine with where the bird is situated on the perch. I find the peach line at the top distracting. Also I am surprised others have not mentioned it (Glenn you get a pass here being from Australia ) but the colors of the bird seem a bit washed out to me and too dull. I have these birds in my yard all the time and have literally seen thousands of them. I will try and get a bit more depth out of the bird to bring out more of its natural beauty.
Lovely woodpecker, nicely shown. I am with Isaac that the color of the bird appears thin, I think the image is overexposed slightly. Thank you for sharing, John.
