Pileated Woodpecker on Dark Tree.
It was rainy that day, and the tree trunk had soaked up some water and become quite dark. The BG is a the same tree's "split" trunk.
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, small crop to help the comp.
The woodpecker looks fantastic against the overall tonality of its environment. I like the diagonal comp very much as well.
Totally agree with Akos.Specially with that limited light ,handheld.
I love the environment here and the bird pops so well against the dark wood / BG. Exposure is good and I like the look at the tail. What a great looking bird and this image shows that very well. TFS
I really like the way the angled perch is balanced by the vertical tree in the background. The bird looks very nice as well. We have 2 pair fo these birds on Staten Island (they are the only ones that are resident in all of NYC) but they are never down low like this and really never give photo opps. This one makes me jealous.
