    Default Kingfisher in Africa

If there's a specific name for this particular variety, I don't know it. Shot from the Landcruiser, but at nearly eye level. One of my better avian images from the trip to Tanzania. Canon 1DsIII, 500mm.

Could this be my first one with good head angle and light? The background was a challenge....

    Looks like the Brown-hooded Kingfisher?

I like it, the bird and the perch are very attractive, agree with you regarding the background.

Background is what it is. Beautiful bird, is the tail really that blue?

I am no bird expert but I think this is a Grey Headed Kingfisher. Can I add my support to the above comments regarding the background, it is very difficult if not impossible to get anything other than a very busy background in the African Bush. The remarkable thing here is that nothing is distracting in the foreground.

I think you are right Ken- grey-headed, not brown-hooded.

This image has a lot of good aspects including colour, head angle and composition. I like the BG and perch.

According to Newmans Chestnut Bellied and Grey Headed are the same thing but I am no expert.
