This Malachite Kingfisher was diving off to fish and returning to this perch for quite a while. This was the lowest angle possible as it was captured from a walkway over the dam. Taken in the Pilanesberg National Park early morning. I've experimented with a different comp from traditional, and look forward to feedback on it. I am taking a trip there tomorrow, so am looking forward to seeing what will be there.

Hi Stu - Gorgeous light and gorgeous colors. I like the pano crop as an alternative. It sort of echoes the line of the beak and of the perch. I'm sure a traditional comp would also work because the kingfisher is just beautiful. Looking forward to seeing what you capture at Pilanesberg. Don't forget to turn around and capture some of the bigger critters too this time.

Wow amazing light Stu this really pops, I think the composition looks Ok but I think 3:2 may have been ok and suspect the bird may have been a little larger in the frame.

This Kingfisher is a beauty! I like the character in the perch, light, sharpness and complimentary BG. Composition wise I could see a 3:2 version working as well but find this comp interesting too.

My first thought was that this would look great on those folded over cards that are 10 x 4.
Great light and IQ with a nice BG.
I did not get to meet Tony as we only had 1 day to hook-up and I screwed up the date.

Stu, great image overall. I wonder if tighter crop reveals more details. If it does, that would be another keeper image.

Pano crop works well here. Great color on the bird with some nice light.
