For those that wonder what's below those oil rigs out in the Gulf of Mexico,,,,,,,my first try at underwater photography. This is from ~45 miles out and ~seventy feet down the legs of an oil rig. A few things I might change in this image, but overall I'm fairly pleased.

David, I really like the colors. Was this out of Grand Isle or Venice? I need to get some equipment for the times we go out and the fish aren't biting :D
Impressive for being the first time U/W with a camera !!!
Pretty good flash coverage, just a little fall off in the corners. Those wa lenses do have a great dof but would close down a bit more. Like the central placement as presented with the beautiful setting !!! Hoping to see lots more !!!
I think it would have been better if you could have cropped the dark blue top left hand portion. It appears that there is more light near the fish. May be you can experiment with multiple strobes. No idea about underwater photography, so you can take this with a pinch of salt. Overall, I like this image. It is good to see something different posted here.
Wonderful color. At first look, all I saw was the fish embedded in those great surroundings. After I read the above comments, I saw the points being made by others, including Sabyasachi re: the dark blue. Even so, this is a beautiful photo of high impact.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback. It's always helpful and appreciated.
Sabyasachi,,,,,,I agree with you on all points. A second strobe will be the next addition as soon as I can save up the cash. Underwater strobes are expensive! The blue spots in the corners are what hurt this image the most in my opinion and I wish I had composed better. I had a lot to keep track of in my head on this first dive trip with a camera, so hopefully on the next outing the technical side will become more second nature and I can concentrate more on the aesthetic.
Rregards,,,,,,David

Hi David,
I looked at this one and read the comments.............IMO it needed a simple crop...........to achieve the results people were asking for. I have a hard enough time telling tour participants to focus on composition on dry land...........don't be so hard on yourself as I can imagine it is a great deal more difficult under water. Ideally you would have put the fish a little more to the left by moving left and aiming right.........easy on dry land...........so instead I cropped.........now the darkness is a bit in all 4 corners and even though the fish is now dead center.........you have a diagonal comp with a line. Let me know what you think...........and if this is the first attempt..........it's scary what you will get with a bit of practice!
