Tamandua in the Pantanal last year. Sun was down, last shot of the day. Obviously narrow depth of field, but with the angle of the head good detail of the eye and ear.
    Canon 5DIII and 400/2.8III handheld.
    1/800, f2.8, ISO2000, processed in Lightroom.

Hi Greg -- What a beautiful subject , first time for me . I think you have done quite well in getting this sharp enough considering the low light. The image appears slightly dark to me but reflects the time of the day. Also there is some bluish / purple cast in the frame. I think you could have easily pushed the iso to atleast 6000 on the 5D MK III and even 8000 and at the same time stopping down to say f4 or f5.6. Looks a tad soft to me, a round of sharpening will do the needful.

    A nice variety here , TFS !

Nice shot, my initial reaction was I think there is a magenta cast, I took the white dropper to the right ear it seems to work. Image looks sharp to me I get the impression the DOF is pretty limited.
It's a nice shot I like it, I just noticed the relatively enormous claws.

Hi Greg - I don't remember anyone posting an image of one of these before on BPN so it's great to see. I agree that the image is a bit dark but understand it was also very low light. I agree about the magenta and blue casts, easy fix if you are so inclined. In an ideal world I would also prefer a little bit more room below. Again, congrats on a great sighting.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Greg, I've never heard of this animal so thanks for posting it and educating me. It looks a little like one of the ant-eaters. The setting is nice here and background excellent. I like to soft light - one advantage of photographing after sunset. I'd hope the brightness could be lifted on this without harming the IQ as it would improve the image. Colour does look a little odd to me also so I'd follow the pointers you've received on that. I'm trying to work out what that thin, pale line is towards the upper left. Perhaps a spider silk? Either way, I'd clone it out.

Hi Greg, well this is an awesome sighting and i am very happy that you have chosen this to share the image with us .As a long term member i too cannot remember that this species has been posted .
I do like the crop and the side profile view , i think this guy was on the move so it does look kinda dynamic which i quite like. Love that fluffy looking fur.
The fading light helped for sure with the contrast and you have lovely soft light , on the other hand the image does appear a bit dark . I would open it up a fraction .
Color issues already mentioned by others above , in which i agree.

    Dear Greg,

This is a first here in the Wildlife Forum, at least to me! Wonderful sighting, well captured, great timing too!

Really worth spending a few minutes to deal with those colour casts, I think this is a fine image and the framing is great. Nice HA too. I agree a bit underexposed, but easy fix if you like. Maybe a tad more sharpening on that cute little face and you're good to go

Really excited to see a new species here, what a nice surprise, thank you so much for sharing

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Animal that I had not seen before. Really very striking. Well done. Would be ok to clone out some the grass blades on snout IMO...
