Captured this image a few weeks ago at Estero Liano Grande, Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas. This Grebe was in the last stages of a wing flap after surfacing at the shallow end of a pond. This is a lifer for me. C&C welcome.

    D500, Nikon 500mm f/4G + 1.4 TC, 1/2500s, f 5.6, ISO 3200, Gitzo, Wimberley Gimbal head.

Geoffrey, Although I don't know the species, this is the type of image I enjoy, very well executed with the high key look, great eye.

Backlighting gave some tough shooting conditions, but you've captured a great pose from this miniature Grebe. I wonder if a few points of black added to the neutrals (or a little bit of left Levels slider) would make the bird pop a bit more.

I love the pose here. And that eye is great. I think a touch more NR on the BG and a little more sharpening on the face could help. Looks like hes walking on water too. Congrats on the lifer. TFS
