Default The 7th Time was the Charm ...

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Hudsonian Godwit, worn juvenile plumage

This image was created on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 21 at Heckscher State Park, Long Island, NY with the Induro GIT304L Grand Series 3 Stealth Carbon Fiber Tripod/Mongoose M3.6-mounted Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM lens, the Canon Extender EF 1.4X III, and my favorite shorebird photography camera body, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. ISO 800. Evaluative metering + 2/3 stop as framed: 1/1600 sec. at f/7.1 in Av mode. Cloudy WB in light cloudy conditions. LensAlign/FocusTune micro-adjustment: -2. Center AF point/AI Servo/Expand/Shutter Button AF was active at the moment of exposure. The selected AF point was on the front of the bird’s breast as originally framed, right on the same plane as the bird’s face and eye.

As for the image, don't be shy. All comments are welcome and appreciated. Fr the complete story of that afternoon and my previously futile efforts to locate this bird, see the blog post here.

Thanks to Isaac Grant for his help with this one. :)

    with love, artie

Solid image here with a good pose on the bird. The background is what it is.

Thanks John. I had lots more with way worse backgrounds. I actually love the background in this one as I imagine that it is likely pretty similar to the habitat where these birds winter in southern Chile or Argentina.

As we discussed Arthur, I fully agree about the background. I think it adds interest to the shot. Nice head angle and pose. Wish it were there yesterday evening...

Me too. It still might be around but I think that I am done with Heckscher. I may go to Sunken Meadow with Tom Pfeifer in the morning, visit my sister, and then head out to the Shinnecock jetty to do some gulls ... with love, artie

I think the BG shows the bird real well, and with the nice detail on the bird, it makes the bird 'pop' well. Nice pose with a good HA.

Lots to like here Artie - including the background which I think works very well and the bird stands out really well against it. Tone, colour and detail all look excellent and the composition works nicely for me. Only issue on this image is there seems to be a halo (sharpening halo maybe?) around the bill but a very small thing on what is a very enjoyable image.

I also get that halo sometimes on the edge of the bills and it is always after I resize the image smaller for posting. I don't know why.

I really like this image, good pose and I don't mind the BG, it shows the habitat quite well.
