Captured this image of a Common Pauraque, a lifer for me, at Estro Llano Grande, lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas a little over a week ago. We saw these nocturnal birds at three different locations, and as you can see or not see, they are well designed to blend into their surroundings extremely well. Good thing if they are on the ground they seem to pick a location next to a tree or near brambles, but makes it very difficult to avoid intersecting branches or twigs when photographing them. This full frame. C&C welcome.
I had to look real good to find the bird on this one. Camo at its best and very well spotted Geoffrey, and congrats. Love the eye and detail on the bird. My only nit is the OOF branch. You did well getting what you got, and presenting it very nicely, as a close up.
This looks like and behaves like the Nightjars we have over here. Never seen one myself. I understand the problem getting a clean shot though and unfortunate for the obstruction here... but assumed you could not move to reduce its impact. The bird's camouflage is excellent. The tone colour and detail look superb. I note this is full frame which means no possibility of more on the left of the frame, which I think could have lifted this one somewhat.
