    Not your typical spoonbill shot, but I thought this close up was interesting.

    1Ds3, 500mm w/ 1.4x, 25mm extension, 1/125s @ f/8, ISO 800

    HI Steve,

    I have to agree with you, not your typical composition but I must say that this composition does not work for me. Perhaps vertical but not horizontal. I also would run the image with a noise reducer software. With that said, the light is very soft and pleasant with good colors and details.

    like the pose, colors and details
    but personally i think a tighter vertical crop and aligning bird to vertical gives a more dramatic image

    here's a quick redo in PS
    using a mask layer , you could also align BG to horizontal if it bothers you
    i'd be happy with this photo in my collection

    Exposure and details look really good. I might go for a vertical crop, too.
