    Black-bellied Plover, worn juvenile

This image was created at Fort DeSoto Park on the late afternoon of Friday, November 10, 2017 with the Induro GIT304L Grand Series 3 Stealth Carbon Fiber Tripod/Mongoose M3.6-mounted Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM lens, the Canon Extender EF 1.4X III and my favorite large plover photography camera body, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. ISO 1250. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/60 second at f/5.6. Cloudy WB in dark, overcast conditions. Two AF points up from the center AF point/AI Servo/Expand/Shutter button AF was active at the moment of exposure. The selected AF point was placed on the bird’s neck just catching a piece of the base of the proximal end of the lower mandible.
    LensAlign/FocusTune Micro-adjustment: -1.

ETTL fill flash at at -1 stop with the Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT on the Mongoose Integrated Flash Arm via the Canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord (2′). Forgetting my Better Beamer Flash Extender wasted lots of battery power.

As for the image, don't be shy; all comments are welcome.

Have to love cooperative Black Bellies! I like this. Background is appealing as it is something different than the normal out of focus blurred background typical of most images. Adds some depth to the shot.

A fine shot I like the position on that little ridge. Surprisingly sharp for 1/60 sec (I read the blog!), I would have gone for minimum f8 and a faster shutter speed just to be safe, I think the 5D IV would deliver the goods at ISO 3200 - 5000 (??). The blacks look very dense to me, there is a small amount of clipping.

Thanks John, The BLACKs look perfect to me; I never spend time looking for BLACK clipping :)

Nice one Arthie, I always love the raised foot pose and here is no different! I agree with Isaac that the background is nice. Also impressed with how you can get these sharp shots at low shutter speeds. TFS

Pretty darn good for 1/60 sec especially with that big lens plus 1.4x. In part shows how good modern stablisers are. I like the pose and nice low POV. DOF is shallow but I think works here. Lovely tone, colour and detail on the bird. I'm less sure whether I like the drop of water on the bill here although it does add interest. Background, framing and composition all work for me.
