    Dear All,
I am posting after a long time as I was away on Safaris and conservation efforts. I found this Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis Cheela) perched on a branch some distance away. After about fifteen minutes, it moved to a tree closer to me. I was on a road on top of a hill, so when it sat on the branch, it was on my eyelevel. The Crested Serpent Eagle survives mostly on snakes and lizards, and also preys on small mammals, birds, frogs etc. In the IUCN Red List it is in the threatened category.

This image was clicked in Bandhavgarh National Park, India. Image not cropped. 1/500, f5.6, ISO 400, Canon EF 400mm f2.8L IS USM, Canon EF 1.4x, Canon EOS 40D.

I like your choice of crop here, the bird is placed nicely in the frame. Surely some fill-flash would have helped with the shadows on the lower part of the body and the eye. I like the tongue sticking out!

Love the pose here! Like the crop too. A shame you didn't have the light coming from a better angle; agree with Daniel about the fill flash. Thanks for posting!

Good to see you posting again and thanks for sharing this image, I don't think I have seen an image of this species before. I like the composition and open beak and agree with Daniel regarding the lighting. Maybe curves or S/H could bring out more details in the shadows.

Love the tongue and the framing. Lots of flash would have improved this a ton.

I really like the pose and the open bill. I'm sure that some adjustments can bee made to reduce the harsh contrast.
