    Hey Joe, I like the detail around the shoulders and the action of the take off here. It's not the easiest thing in the world to get the sun and the wind to line up for these shots. The crop may be a bit tight. One thing I've noticed in my own attempts as well as this shot is that these birds are very large for the DOF provided by ƒ5.6...maybe 6.3 or 7.1 to get the tip of the bill in focus.

    Great head-on shot, Joe showing nice detail on the bird and an effective simple setting. I like the water being churned up too. Tight composition seems to work well here too. While detail is good where it counts (face and front of wings), a touch more depth of field wouldn't have hurt either. Nice work all the same.
