This was a previsit to the rut just to get my head around the wild herd of fallow deer we have been watching for the last three years or so. This is a massive population spread over a huge area,whom are having to be heavily managed. Consequently of late I have been laizing with the stalkers so niether party trips over the other. I suspect to fail now on the actual rut , as an image maker. There are so many does here that I simply don't feel the boys need to compete,it's not altogether a great situation,but hopefully the stalkers will get things right they obviously have the deer's wellfare at heart. These deer are descimating their habitat the control is needed but it doesn't make image making easy. I'm often stunned by the sheers scale of their senses,they are so astute,getting close is all but an art form.
This is a young(yearling) male we call them prickets, being driven nuts by the flies and having a go back which was funny to watch ,it's a shame I couldn't move a bit to split him from the group behind,but as above so many eyes . I've leant to try and get something before they either spook because of me or something silly like an acorn falls and that puts them in the next county,yes I'm not joking I have seen that one first hand.
A crop on the vert full frame in width from 2-3 to 4-5 1/1600 f7.1 iso 2500 processed in dpp4 all global non selective processing. colour work blue sat -2 yellow sat -3 green -1 bit of NR overal sat notched up to one and overal tone to the red side again by one sharpened in dpp.

Stu, lots to like in this one for me. I do like the moment captured here with the animal showing his frustration at the flies. The lighting here brings this out very nicely. As noted, shame about the background animals which do distract but the rest of the background and the foreground look great and composition fits well. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Stu - The pp and techs look good. The content isn't grabbing me though, sorry. The rear of the one in the back intersecting the ear is really unfortunate. Also a bit too much oof fg for me. Keep them coming.

A shame about the OOF deer ....just ruining this frame a bit , but nothing you could have done .A bit tighter would work better too.
Hi Stu. I can see where you are coming from on this one. I think its a great view of the raised head, definitely different. Good POV, and the flies makes the image, what it is.
Hi Stu, moving a bit more to your left would have helped as having the rear in view is less than ideal, plus you also can afford to have less FG. For me it's the head & flies that are the shot, however you don't say if it's the 300 with or without the 1.4. If it's without then I would have popped it on and gone a lot tighter. Techs a re getting better, but it's ISO 2000 not 2500 .
