    Hi,
I am back after a short absence (due to heavy work & some conferences). Here is a cheetah image which I tried to convert in B&W using DPP & PS CS5.

Welcome back Sanjeev. You seem to have an amazing collection of cheetah shots. Still very envious! Your conversion looks good to my eye with nice tones and tonal range. I might be inclined to extract a bit more detail/structure in the fur though. Given the absence of colour here, it may help substitute as I feel I just want a bit more in the animal. I'd be inclined to lift the eyes a little even though this may be an accurate conversion, we see those orange eyes as bright but the conversion will always make them look dark in B&W. As for composition, I wondered if going portrait on this one to turn it into a tighter portrait if the IQ will stand up?

I like the shot but feel a tad more pop, I have taken the liberty of making an alternative for your consideration.
A tad more sharpening and a little contrast, I have brightened the eyes and nose area also.

Thanks all. Jon, yes I like your RP and it does open up a bit more detail in the eyes, nose & fur.

    Dear Sanjeev,

I always appreciate a cheetah image, many thanks for sharing. IMO this frame is suitable for conversion but a little disappointed with the slow SS which caused a blur to the tongue.

RP from John is indeed better but overall I feel there isn't enough detail. One other thing, there's a strange looking spot on the cheetah's body (near the bottom of the frame), kindly take a look?

In terms of composition I am happy with this as presented but I would explore other options too like the one suggested by Glenn above.

Thank you Sanjeev once again, hope you have a lovely week ahead,

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Sanjeev a solid cheetah portrait , nice and clean with a superb soft BG .
Conversion does look good to me , i would open the whole image up . Needs more punch i think in the subject .
Jon has made it even slightly darker , i think.
i do like the tongue sticking out .
