I like this one even more than your last stag image John, the bellow, clear face and grass stalks coming together nicely. Just a shame the band of water is competing for the scene, a pleasing image otherwise.

Yes, I think this is your best so far, Jon. Detail, tone and colour look great to me and I like the soft colour and tone of the non-subject parts. The water is bright but could easily be selected and darkened a little to make it less prominent. I wondered if a slightly tighter crop would work here? Thanks for the installment in the series!

I think you nailed him this time, Jon. Getting him in a more open area to show off his legs!
Wondering if you have considered cropping at the top of the water to mitigate the two strips - lake and green shore.
Thanks for sharing!

Very nice Jon. Great exposure and sharp where it counts. Love the habitat with the water in the BG.

Hi Jon - This works extremely well on all fronts. Perfect bellowing pose with some grass in the antlers thrown in, good space around, no intersection with the stream, and pleasing colors. The fur looks much better too. Nice one!

Thanks very much everyone. I did think about eliminating the water, I was torn, I felt it might have looked better pictorially but decided this is how it was.

Hi Jon this looks pretty darn good ...
Better on all counts compared to previous posting ...i would just echo Rachelīs thoughts .
If i would change something i would loose the land on top of the frame and would end with the water
Very nice image , love the bellowing pose . TFS Andreas

Hi Jon, I think the colours are now working better and the subject is being more 'cooperative'. I'm not a fan of the lake behind and shooting down (it appears) would have preferred to be the other way round, much lower and shooting up at the subject, with the sky as the BKG. Minimum f/5.6 and use that ISO for SS!!!!
No malt for you today.
