Default One more bittern on a lilly pad

Well, just one other of my good luck of finding this least bittern so much out in the open. Taken with the D300 Nikon 500 f4, f 7.1, 1/2500, iso 640.

    Thanks for all C&C's

I like the pose and setting and might have stopped down a bit more for a wider DOF.

Where? Lower would have been better. Love the crouched hunting posture. The curled up leaf that intersects with the bird's throat is distracting. Good job with the EXP.

Thanks Art:). The only problem about getting lower was there was lots of tall grass in the way, so had to keep the height. This was at Viera.

Hi Nancy, Lovely capture and to get it out in the open like that can be a real challenge. Excellent exposure and good detail. I agree with all of the above. Many thanks for sharing.

Nancy I'm still hoping to create an image of this species. Nice image and I agree with the above comments also. I wonder fif the head could do with a touch of selective sharpening?

I agree with the above, and in fact, would crop it alot from the top as that Upper Left corner draws my eye. And yes to more sharpening on the head. But that said, I sure would like an image as nice as this one in my files!

Hi, Nancy. I see you're still having luck with the bitterns. I haven't been up to Viera since we met at St. Aug.
I am trying to find time - there just isn't enough of it. Keep up the good work. This posture is stunning.

Great shot and fantastic colors, Nancy!
I really like the way the yellow-greens work with the bird's feathers.
