    Default Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

It was fun and challenging photographing a small flock of these that were feeding (very) actively within some evergreens. I got lots of images of beautiful, but bare, cone-laden branches...but a few of them actually featured a kinglet on posing them - this one being one of my favorites.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, natural light, handheld, small crop for comp, usual eye work.

Tough to get the ruby crowns showing on these flighty little guys. Well captured. The cones are a plus.

Daniel, a delight to see some 'little bush birds' as I like to call them. They are my favourite but as you note can be fast-movers and hard to capture. I don't know this species but it looks like a lovely little cutie. You've handled the strong light well here. In my experience, many small birds like this don't tend to venture out into the open very often though. The cones and setting are great too, and well framed. Thanks for sharing and look forward to some more like this.

Gorgeous setting. I love the pine cones. Nice light and details. The eye looks great too. Very jealous of this one. TFS

what a wonderful capture, these guys are SO difficult to track down. I have some in the winter here in San Diego, but dart about like madmen.

I posted on another Blog: "I hate these guys so much I love'em", because they are so difficult to capture. Great job here.
