Captured this image in a lagoon at the base of a glacier just south of the well known Jokulsarlon glacier back in July of 2016. I like this image for it's tilted bergs, especially the lighter one in the foreground showing clearly the layers of volcanic ash separated by clean layers of ice. Also visible in the background you can see the different moraines created as the earth was pushed in front of the advancing glacier. My guess is there is quite a bit of water flowing rapidly off the glacier turning the water a light brown. C&C welcome.

    D810, Nikon 16-35mm f/4G @ 24mm, 1/800s, f 11, ISO 800, Gitzo, Wimberley Gimbal head. This is full frame.

    Hi Geoffrey

Very interesting... It looks like a iceberg graveyard to me. The brown is most unlike most iceberg photos, and the POV suggests (to me anyway) a dominance of the photographer over the iceberg. Normally its the reverse, where the iceberg towers above the photog, although that's a big generalization..! I too like the layered 'berg in the FG and I think I would have gone in tight on this.. maybe you have others?? From a landscape image perspective I think its a little cluttered and difficult for the eye to flow easily, technically, I wonder about the deeper blue on the ridge line top LH corner..

I certainly remember this spot. "Iceberg graveyard" is a good description. Most folks chose to photograph the striking glacier that was just up to the left (including a wedding photographer with the bride in billowing wedding gown against the spectacular backdrop). This image captures a unique view of the landscape.

Thanks Don. Good description. I agree it is unique to see brown water surrounding bergs in a lagoon. I did look at some tight views of the layered berg, but wasn't quite sure it worked as well as the more open view. I'll take another look. I take your point on it being a bit cluttered for the eye to flow. Maybe minus a tad blue top LH corner.

Thanks Bill. As spectacular as the glacier was just a pivot and up to the left, I also thought maybe I'm seeing something here.

That was a first/lifer seeing a bride in wedding gown being photographed in front of a glacier.

Hi Geoffrey, Very cool image like Don I find the perspective adding a bit of surrealism to the image which I like.

I like the image but the bright white lower left really bugged me. I was gonna eliminate it but a small crop from the left (and from below, for balance), greatly lessened its impact ...
