    Default Juvenile Tricolored Heron

Juvie Tricolored Heron - an uncommon visitor at Brigantine, from last year. At the time, I posted a shot of him in a wings-up position -- one of my favorites. This is two frames (0.3 sec.) earlier, and is full-frame. I rather like the somewhat small-in-frame shot with a lot of habitat, although I'll post a cropped version in the next pane.

Nice one Bill, I prefer the wider version as I generally like shots that show the habitat and the 'dull' habitat makes the bird's blue and orange pop more. In the cropped version I see some jaggies on the head and I think they may be on the wider version as well, albeit much smaller. TFS

I agree that the looser crop is better. Details look good and the bird shows very well against the green background. I like the pose. And the vertical grasses and reflection are great. Nice one Bill.

I like the looser crop too Bill. Without it, you'd lose much of those reed clumps which are really nice while not distracting from the bird significantly which pops nicely from the background. Your IQ and handling of tone and colour are up to there usual excellent standard.

I like both crops. Here is a middle of the road 3X2 crop that eliminates some of the edge problems left and above but still includes lots of nice habitat.

    with love, artie

ps: if it works for you you might consider eliminating the lightning bolt reed striking the bird's upper back just behind the head ...

Thanks Artie. I was thinking about a middle version, and yours works very nicely. Not too much off, but just enough to clean it up and make a little more of the bird. And yes, I agree about the lightning bolt. I'll have another go at it.

Very nice detail here and a lovely flight pose. I like the BG showing the habitat. The middle pose for me.

Good one, Bill. This is as nice as your original post back when. Love the wings down, beautiful light and great habitat. I prefer pane #1.
