More of the duelling rhinos

Apologies for this second shot - I promise not to submit any more of this interaction. Light had deteriorated even more by the time I took this so it was a miracle I was able to recover a shot at all. I accept some might think I shouldn't have tried! But sometimes it's useful to see how far things can be pushed. I had to increase the ISO further and it was even more under-exposed (about 2 stops). In this case I actually have some motion blur on the young rhino on the left although his head is reasonably still and sharp. I didn't mind this effect even though it would generally be considered bad practice. I did try a B&W conversion on this one too but struggled to produce a result I thought was better. Crop is full frame on width and a little off the bottom.
IUCN status: Near Threatened
Technical: Canon 80D with Lens EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM at 400mm handheld. Manual exposure 1/50, f6.3, ISO 3200 handheld. Processed in Canon DPP 4 (digital lens optimiser @ 50, Sharpness = 3, crop, +2 EV exposure, lighting adjustments, default NR) then exported 16 bit TIFF to Photoshop Elements with Neat Image NR plugin where modest NR applied to the rhinos along with some sharpening and stronger NR to the background. Contrast and brightness raised on animals selectively and to lesser extent on background. Sharpened (sharpness, radius = 0.5 pixels, 50%) after final size reduction.

Dear Glenn,
Another behavioural frame and the POV is great. Mmm...1/50s I am afraid not enough
. Since there's quite some movement from the subjects, but good to experiment and see how far you can push things:) I notice a faint cyan cast on the ears and neck of the rhino on the RHS of the image, which you can remove if you like. Love the pose from those two. In terms of framing I would perhaps take a little from the LHS to create more symmetry, but let us see what the others say?
Curious what else you have from this trip, seems like a successful one in terms of sightings. You must have lots of images, let us see some more please?
Hope you had a lovely week-end,
Kind regards,

This looks pretty sharp for 1/50sec not tack sharp but sharp enough. The motion blur on the left rhinos foot is nice the composition is good as well.

Hi Glenn - Seems like a great sighting. For me the motion blue and framing add, it tells the story of the smaller/younger rhino trying to push the bigger one. Low pov works. Unfortunately, as you indicated, IQ has suffered due to the conditions and the underexposing. Looking forward to more.
TFS,
Rachel

Hi Glenn -- I am with the others , liked the blurred foot and the special moment and angle , but the IQ is not upto the mark. Keep sharing more .
