I know it would have been nice to have a better HA on the chick, but hey, the chick had better things to think about. Sitting on the bottom of a little solo canoe, it was all I could do to manage the camera and also wield the paddle to keep the breeze from blowing my little boat right into the birds.

Another excellent shot, Bill. Great moment captured with perfect timing. You handle the dark tones on the heads of these so well. I'm not bothered by the chick head angle here - that's what nature looks like. Clarity, tones and colours are great, as usual. I'm puzzled by the adult though: looks as though the bird's neck is submerged but maybe it's just the waves and POV creating that illusion?

Thanks Glenn. I've noticed in other shots of this and other exchanges with the chick, that the parent somehow goes into low-rider mode and submerges enough to get down to the level of the chick. This actually illustrates it well.

Hi Bill, well timed to capture the moment, and a great low perspective from your boat. The central placement works well.
