Default Incoming Wave Looms Over Unsuspecting Sanderling.

This tame Sanderling took a long nap right, allowing me to manoeuvre for all sorts of vantage pints and angles. It was rather windy and the waves were crashing around it, sometimes going up to its belly before receding back into the river. This rather large-looking incoming wave made for an interesting backdrop to the image, and combined with the tired and oblivious subject, made for a fun one too.

Great POV and DOF. IQ excellent.
If you had not disclosed the fact that in the BG was an incoming wave, I would have thought it was a sandbar/dune. I wish it was more obvious that it was a wave.
I like your comp and could also see a version with a bit off the top.

Yes, I had to look twice aswell. I thought the BG was a sand dune Nicely captured Dan, I like your crop and the detail, on the bird. You can feel the thoughts from the stress free bird.

Drop dead gorgeous shot. I love the sand and shadow on it. Me too regarding the wave that looked more like something else. Either way, still a stunning shot with beautifully handled tones, colours and detail. If it was mine, I'd have played a bit more with the crop but you probably should ignore that since I seem to get a lot of disagreement with my crops!

There is so much I like about this! The little feet buried in the sand, the whole bird being in focus, and the imminent realization that he's about to get wet. Out of curiosity, where was your focus point?

Thanks Jake!! The focus point was on the area where the back feathers meet the forehead.
