The only thing I would have done with this Jeff is remove the pin-hole catch-light in the eye created by the flash. I like the image very much- it really shows off this special species. The feet are great and you can just see a hint of the olive back of the bird. The clutter above the bird's head is a little distracting but I'm fine with it.

Sweet. You don't give your specs, but I think your compromise on Dof was a good choice, a bit of tail for more blur in the background.
Nicely done. 800 pixels tall is better than 600 tall... Wish that the bird's head were turned just a tiny bit towards you.

The Northern Parula nests across much of the Adirondacks, Green Mtns. of Vermont, northern NH, and Maine. Closer to where you used to live in NY, I think they are breed in the Catskills. They are usually found quite easily by their song in, mixed conifer-hardwood forests, but very high up in the canopy. I was able to get this one at eye level along a trail that climbs a ridge and gets even with the canopy.
