Common Loon and Prey

This was taken a couple years ago during our fall/winter when we have several species of loons come through.
We only get a few but during this peculiar season it was really good for Southern CA. I tried a few times before to get this shot and was finally happy with this one.

I looked at the thumbnail and was like, what the ....is that? lol, nice action capture! How did you get that tiny fish in focus?

Remarkable shot, Tim. Like Michael, I wondered what was going on here when I saw the thumbnail. A very nice surprise when the image came up. As for Michael's question on focus, my suspicion is that you were able to set focus on the disturbance in the water caused by the bird (where the contrast is highest) and this looks to be in a similar plane to the fish. Nice work.

I don't think the fish angling slightly away detracts from this unique image at all, and the fish looks pretty darn sharp also.
This is one of those lucky fun captures that we all try to get when the action is happening. Some of my favorite and most memorable frames are of some type of natural feeding action like this. Well captured Tim
