Default Osprey with a Mahi Mahi

    Attached Images Attached Images

An adult female Osprey with a small Dolphin which is the first I have seen or heard of for an Osprey. I don't think they come much closer here than about 10 miles off the coast here but there may be a warm water eddy in closer. Bottom line is she traveled several miles offshore to catch this one.
I was full frame to the rhs. Cropped a bit off the left. Very basic LR edits and reduced noise in the BG. 1/2500, f6.3, auto ISO 640, 500 f4 E + 1.4III, D500. cc

This is fantastic John!! Love the pose and the unique prey item. I fish for these Mahi Mahi a lot, we call them Dorado out west, and you are right, they don't come in to the coast to often. They are normally a deeper water pelagic fish so getting a frame like this is a real treat to see.
It looks sharp and the pose is beautiful with the fish displayed well. The comp looks about perfect for me also.
I only see a few things that I would have done if it were mine, and I do wish it was.
I used the dodge tool to lighten the shadowed area under the wing and the head, including the eye. I added a bit more green to the fish, a couple points of black overall and removed the two dark spots in the BG. Otherwise ready to print!
    Well done

Amazing capture and unusual catch. Great wingspread and fanned tail, head-on look. The bird looks like she has a swollen crop as if she has already dined.

Thanks for the feedback and for the edit. Looks great. I have caught many ( Dolphin, Mahi Mahi, Dorado ) as well and never inside of 10 miles. They do come in closer south of here. My friend who used to run a commercial fishing boat says the farthest out he has seen an Osprey was about 10 miles. It had a Bluefish and looked like he was having trouble flying with it. The Osprey landed on the stern of the boat and rested for a while as they were steaming towards shore. Once they got close to the beach he took off again.

Fantastic looking frame John. Beautifully captured and presented real well. I love the flight pose, and the BG shows the bird nicely. You had a great opportunity here and you captured it perfectly. Well done.

Hi John, great eye contact with this incoming pose, and you couldn't have captured a better wingspread if you tried. The fish a bonus, and I like the subtle touches Dave has done.

Excellent pose and nice light, the fish is a big plus. I'd sharpen him a bit more
