I believe this is a sanderling but am not really sure. I like the specular highlight behind the bill. Image made early morning on the beach. Image adjustments in light room. Hand held, medium sized crop.

Can't comment on the identification but I do like what you are doing here, John. The first thing that struck me was the specular highlight behind the bill. It adds a nice touch although I imagine some might object to it. There are only two things I'd revisit if this were mine: the white on the flank looks like it might be close to blowing. I'd pull it back a bit although I'm not sure you'll be able to get much detail there with the direct-on light. I'd also be tempted to tighten the crop a little particularly to take out the lighter bits at the top of the frame.

For the first second or two I thought the specular highlight behind the beak was kind of cool, but after looking at it for a few more seconds I realized that I don't like it and it is a distraction. Your first impression is that it's the Moon in the distance. Otherwise it's a nice-looking frame.

Hi John, lovely low perspective, and certainly nice light. I like the bubbles on the incoming wave, but agree the larger specular highlight should go along with the smaller ones. Comp wise, I would maybe take a bit off the top.

How neat it would have been, had it been the rising moon. But as it is, I'll agree it is a bit distracting.

Yes to Sanderling. I had the same reaction as David. Good profile pose and view of the two claws.
