.....and then he settled down for the long wait, while his mate got her chance to do some fishing. The end.

This encounter, plus another on a different lake a few days earlier, were my first opportunities to see these marvelous birds up close and in breeding plumage. Although I might have preferred being alone with them on a secluded lake, it was a treat. I'll take what I can get.

You owe Joanne big time for finding this loon pair for you!
Exposure is perfect ( these birds are hard to get right) and great POV.
Thanks for the series.I enjoyed it very much. Are you going back for the babies?

Cool series you did here. Like the environment the loon is in this one and the green.

Wonderful series and another view of these beautiful birds. He's keeping an eye on you, but she had already mentioned to him, "he's okay".

Hi Bill, excellent exposure on the Loon, and what a lovely relaxed pose, and in the open too. I quite like your central placement.

Perfect exposure, and the face looks so crisp and clear. Stopping down to f/8 was a good call, the habitat looks really good all around the loon.

Thank you all for your comments on this and prior posts in the series. Yes, Gail, I am indebted to Joanne both for finding the bird and then for noticing the second one as we were leaving. And probably a few other things as well . I do wish we could go back for the chicks, since this site is so accessible. Alas.
