I wish I had a retrospectroscope, I would have been perhaps an inch or two higher, and maybe an inch to the right! Image captured at the Farne Islands.

    Jon:

Do these guys ever actually eat the fish, or just carry them around?

I get the POV comment. It is always easy in retrospect to see what could have been done better.

Really like the detail on the cheek, the fish of course, soft bg and exposure.

I would consider not putting your sig over the oof rock, the contrast against the OOF area draws the eye, and perhaps somehow makes the rock more noticeable than it merits.

    Small thing really.

    Cheers

Great mouthful of fish, nice exposure and lovely blue background. When you get your retrospectroscope, let me know where to buy one. I can see your point about the POV -- there's always something, isn't there -- but this is a handsome image.

Nice frame Jon. I like the colours, which show true of a Puffin. The BG colour shows the bird well. The OOF FG I feel doesn't add to the image.

Really nice image Jon. The mouth full of fish is exceptional. Nice details and background. I agree a retrospectroscope would have worked well here as the foreground is detracting from such a fine image.

Bird looks really nice. I also wonder when they actually eat these fish they are always just carrying around. I think the out of focus foreground and the tip of the toe that is cut off are quite unfortunate. Would it have been possible to shoot this slightly higher up and to your right. Maybe then go for a tight vertical type shot?

Jon perhaps a better angle for that oof rock but that apart this is excellent, colour and detail especially in the black are spot on.

I tried something similar with the OOF foreground on my last wing flap Puffing and got similar crit - looks like we both need to grow an inch or 2! Otherwise another nice result
