Going back on memory lane once again, here is an image taken in the Kalahari in 2010. I did a lot of experimenting in those days, so when I look at those images now I often cannot understand the reasoning behind my camera settings:) Every now and then I got lucky and with some decent light the images did not turn out too bad, so here is one I quite like. If you are wondering what makes me share such old stuff, well... I thought I'd show you what amazing eyes those creatures have. I was so taken with those horizontal pupils at the time...

Nikon D300S (my first "proper" camera, LOL)
    Nikon 300mm F2.8
    1.4TC
    Focal Length: 450mm
    ISO 400
    F7.1
    1/500s (oops...)

Enjoy your evening friends, and happy processing PP work on this one was done in 2013, perhaps worth another look at the RAW one of those evenings. I already see a couple of things I can do to improve this - hair looks a bit coarse in places, I could open up the blacks a bit (around the eye), a slight colour cast on the white hairs behind ear)

Wow, the pupils look very interesting! I like the soft BG and the framing of the mongoose. Hair indeed looks a bit coaarse on the nose compared with the back of the neck, but for me its a very nice picture.

A very 'cool' portrait Gabriela and the eye is awesome, quite unusual.

If you have time, then to reprocess the raw based on your own thoughts would be an interesting comparison.

Hi Gabriela - That eye is the stuff of nightmares. It's haunting. A nice close up portrait of the mongoose. I agree with you self-critique especially about the coarseness, perhaps a bit too much sharpening as well.

Cool portrait really like that eye especially the shape of the pupil so neat to see this. Nice light and background as well.

Thank you so much everyone, and I fully agree with your comments and critique.

Steve, the RP would be an interesting exercise. I am also curious what difference it would make, some gentle PP work with today's skills Will share as soon as I process!

Hope you all have a wonderful day,

That eye is really captivating - never seen anything like it. I wonder if this would work better with a whisker cut off the left of the frame and maybe the top?

    Thank you friends,

Had no time to look at the RAW yet, will do so when I get a chance.

Glenn, I could crop further but I really like the space. Besides, I do not want to get too close to that long brow at the top:)

Have a wonderful rest of the week, everyone!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
