    Default Phalarope in Purple

    Attached Images Attached Images

Red-Necked Phalarope from Iceland. The water is purple from the reflection of the lupins on the water's edge.

This is one time when I decided I was too low in the water and moved my tripod up 6 inches to get the purple in the BG.
PP: Almost FF,cropped dor composition, usual LR sliders, NR to BG ,levels, nothing added or cloned, USM to JPEG

Beautiful colour palette here Gail - this looks to have been a wonderful trip for the pair of you, some nice variety of species.

Can't really think of any negatives in this frame, everything just fits, with the POV, the little head turn, and great detail. Definite winner.

Love the soft purple BG, details, breaking water and slight ripples, and the look at the eye. Good call moving the tripod up a bit. Nice light too. TFS

That purple in the BG is the bomb, Gail. The beautiful light and the beautiful pose are elevated to the next level with the purple in the BG.

    Gail:

Beautiful image, with the purple and birds coloring working well together. Kudos for changing your POV. The exposure and feather detail are outstanding.

I might consider toning down the bright water just above your sig.

And perhaps toy with a tiny sliver more canvas below and right. I know you would have to create it, but I think it would work.

    Cheers

I bet you were happy when it swam across beautiful colours like this. I love the rippling of the water in front of the breast. Super image!

What a handsome male you have photographed. Love these birds and love this photo. Beautiful details against lovely colored water. So pleasing. I'd be super over the top excited to have an image like this. If being super picky I would have preferred a bit more depth of field so the flanks could be in sharp focus. I recently had that issue with a Piping Plover. Was shooting at 7.1 as it was farther away and I had the whole bird in focus and then the bugger decided to run right at me, pause for a moment and then go on its way. So the details were great, but I did not have the time to make any changes so the back leg was not sharp.

I went to the west coast of BC. Vancouver and Victoria. Simply beautiful!! It was a perfect time of the year and we had great weather. No camera though just a nice vacation with my wife.
Went to our friends Arash's wedding and spent 5 days checking out the area. We love Canada. Next is the eastern side as I want to go to Niagara and Ottawa. We lived in Ottawa when I was in grade school.
Ill look you up when I plan the eastern side of your beautiful country.
See ya soon, maybe next year to Iceland!!

This is such a cool bird. Not easy to find one around. The BG adds a lot too. Nice job.
