I have about 4 King Birds living in the palm trees behind my house, they have a nest there and keep running off the other birds, I happened to catch this one as it left the tree.

    Oly E510 - 70-300mm ISO 400 1/800 Aperture priority
Taken in late evening and cropped way down

Hi Bernie - quite like the pose with the outsretched wings and the tail fanned out.

Seems to be a bit of noise in the shot and appears quite soft. Is it a large crop of the original?

I think it's marvellous...the wing position, the tail, the exposure, the details, and the overall composition.

Great looking bird Bernie Love the pose As good as it gets !! Did well with the light Agree with previous on the lack of sharpness, I think the wings appear sharper than the head area. Af was locked on that area !!! Might also give it a little more room !!!! Excellent !!!

I love this type of flight pose and it's difficult to catch! Good job! Wish you hadn't had to crop quite so much. I think you could leave more space around it, sharpen, do some noise reduction, & lighten the shadows a bit and you'd have improvement, but at this size and with the compression, it causes problems....maybe with a few more pixels....
